Imagine Life without Paper...

Today it is hard to imagine life without paper! Our cornflakes would fall on the floor and our fish and chips would be unwrapped. Paper is part of our contemporary life:

from pizza boxes to paper money
tracing paper to lottery tickets
disposable bed pans to roofing felt
exam papers to library books
newspapers to surgical gowns
sick bags to disposable nappies

The versatility of paper goes on and on.....

Each type of paper is very different

Some is soft (tissues), some tough (packaging board), some is water resistant (wrapping paper), some is absorbant (kitchen rolls), some is destined for a long life (a book) and some is soon thrown away (a newspaper).

Papermaking is an established, expanding global business with career opportunities both at home and overseas
From its origins as a handcraft trade over 500 years ago, papermaking in Britain has grown into a high tech industry using the latest computer technology. The industry manufacturers 6 million tonnes of paper and board per year and has a turnover of £3,500 million.
