A healthy UK manufacturing industry is essential to the success of our economy and the long term prosperity of British people. We believe all Members of Parliament should be encouraging the revival of manufacturing in the UK.

CORRUGATED INDUSTRY PARLIAMENTARY RECEPTION

A dynamic, modern industry at the heart of UK manufacturing for over 100 years, Corrugated has established itself as the world’s favourite packaging material due to its flexibility and ability to reduce carbon footprints and take cost out of supply chains.

The corrugated (cardboard) packaging industry is strategically important to UK manufacturing.  It provides vital products and services to thousands of companies, large and small, and is therefore an excellent barometer of the pressure UK manufacturing is under.

What is the corrugated packaging industry concerned about?
Decline in the manufacturing sector is not inevitable.   UK manufacturing has changed out of all recognition in recent years through its investment in new technologies and highly skilled workforce.

So what can MP’s and policy-makers do for us?
Take a positive long term view about UK manufacturing. Believe it can prosper again. Turn that belief into practical policies:

  • Give strategically important new manufacturing industries as much support as possible to get off the ground
  • Promote manufacturing in schools and colleges and continue to invest heavily in education and training
  • Remove the charge for business rates on empty property
  • Introduce more favourable Capital Allowances (not just first year) for capital expenditure
  • Reduce significantly the amount of regulation and bureaucracy that manufacturing companies increasingly face

Wednesday 26 October 2011

from 12.15-3.00pm in Dining Room A
House of Commons

This year's Parliamentary Reception will again hosted by Dan Rogerson MP. Representatives of the corrugated packaging industry will be present at the Reception to brief MPs on issues that we face, to discuss the significant contribution we make to the UK economy and to consider why we believe that we have an unsurpassed environmental record. This is the main annual political event for our industry.

Please let us know if you will be able to join us for this Reception, and we look forward to seeing you at this important event in our calendar.
