Increasingly Uncompetitive Electricity Prices - A Threat to UK Papermaking

Research conducted by the Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) has highlighted a growing disparity in industrial electricity costs between the UK and other parts of the European Union, in particular Germany. The UK has the second most expensive industrial power in Europe with grid supplied electricity to UK Paper Mills costing almost twice as much as that for German Mills.

YouGov Poll Reveals Consumers Prefer Cardboard Packaging for their Deliveries

British shoppers prefer to see their purchases packed in cardboard because it offers better protection than polystyrene for goods in transit, as well as being the easiest material to recycle, according to latest research commissioned by CPI.

Review of the European Union Timber Regulation – Comments from CPI

The European Union Timber Regulations (EUTR) were instigated in 2013 with the intention that illegally harvested timber, and products made from illegally harvested timber, cannot be sold in the European Union.  Illegal timber has no place in the paper industry and CPI, representing the paper-manufacturing sector in the UK, supported the introduction of the new legislation.

Judith Hackitt Launches New PABIAC Industry Strategy at CPI’s Successful Biennial Health and Safety Conference

On Tuesday 30 June, two hundred and fifty delegates from across the UK Paper Industry attended the CPI’s Biennial Health and Safety Conference, sponsored by Omron Safety Services and Symplicis.

Andrew Braund, CPI Director of Health and Safety, said: “After many years of running this event, CPI is delighted with the level of support from industry and this year’s record attendance is testament to the importance of health and safety to the industry”.

In her keynote address, Judith Hackitt CBE, Chair, Health and Safety Executive (HSE) launched the new Paper and Board Industry Advisory Committee (PABIAC) industry strategy: ‘Health and Safety – It’s more than just a paper exercise’.
