Health & Safety

HSE TRANSPORT RESEARCH PROJECT UPDATE

Following the withdrawal of INDG 396 ‘Transporting Paper Safely’ the HSE have commissioned a research project to look at the effectiveness of different methods of securing and restraining loads on curtain-sided lorries.

GOOD PRACTICE -
Traffic Segregation on-site Plan
This 'good practice' document has been prepared by a Member company. The main purpose of the document is to show how one company addressed the issue of effectively segregating pedestrians and vehicles, which other companies may find useful when undertaking or reviewing transport risk assessments. It contains some excellent pictorial examples and site plans.

GOOD IDEAS
For as little as £600 you could have control of vehicle movement in and out of your unloading area. As a result of an initial risk assessment into traffic control, carried out by the depot supervisor, that is how much it cost Severnside Recycling, Keynsham depot.

The risk assessment (word) and case study (word) shows how they identified the initial problem and what they did to resolve it.

WORKPLACE TRANSPORT - FURTHER INFORMATION
There are a number of sources of information on workplace transport. Most of these are FREE, and available on the internet from the HSE website. To download the information click on the links within the document.

TRANSPORT PRESENTATION
This presentation includes general sources of information; the HSE target areas and what they look for when visiting your premises and examples of safe sites, vehicles and driver.
