Objective 1 Understanding and integrating human factors into health and safety
As part of the new PABIAC strategy, and in supporting Members in understanding more about human factors and critical tasks, CPI will be holding a series of webinars to support Objective 1. We have secured the services of Pippa Brockington, Human Factors expert and ex HSE Specialist Inspector.
The first webinar will take place on Tuesday 23 January 2024, and over the course of the year, Pippa will be delivering a series of webinars on a range of topics that will help raise awareness of human factors and how to address them in management systems.
Each webinar will take place from 12.00 to 13.30 and will cover the following human factors related topics:
Tuesday 23 January - ‘Human Factors Awareness’.
Understanding the general principles of human factor and how it can be applied within your company.
Tuesday 12 March - ‘Approaches to Safety Critical Task Analysis’.
This webinar will look at two key methods of SCTA – the ‘Seven Steps Approach’ and ‘Task Improvement Process’, focusing on how to engage employees directly in identifying Human Factors issues in the workplace.
Tuesday 14 May - ‘Identifying and prioritising critical tasks.
This webinar will provide advice and guidance on how to identify critical tasks that would benefit from SCTA, and then prioritise these.
Tuesday 23 July - ‘Design and Management of Procedures’.
The webinar would introduce some of the key issues around use of procedures as a risk reduction measure, with a focus on key ways to improve usability of instructions.
Tuesday 24 September - ‘Human Factors Integration’.
Looking at tools and techniques for integrating Human Factors into the design and procurement of machinery and control systems.
Tuesday 12 November - ‘Human Factors in Accident Investigation’.
Whatever accident investigation tool companies use, they still have problems with understanding and addressing Human Factors in investigations. This webinar will give an overview of common problems with some hints and tips for avoiding hindsight bias and other cognitive biases in investigation.
CPI Biennial Health and Safety Conference - 2024
1st/2nd July 2024
We are pleased to announce that the next CPI Biennial Health and Safety Conference will take place on 1st and 2nd July 2024. The pre-event BBQ will be held on the evening of Monday 1st July, and the conference on Tuesday 2nd July.
We will be returning to the newly refurbished Chesford Grange Hotel, Kenilworth.

CPI Brexit Webinars
As the UK moves out of the transition phase of EU exit on 31 December 2020 member companies are seeking clarification and a greater understanding of how this will affect their business.
On Friday 6 November, CPI held its first-ever virtual Brexit webinar. The second webinar was held on Wednesday 2 December. These online events provided an opportunity for representatives of CPI’s member companies to engage with officials from across Government about Brexit.
